Independently-funded residencies

Craft Central’s independently-funded residencies programme provides opportunities for those with their own funding to make time and space for research and development; to develop a new body of work or to work towards an exhibition. We welcome individuals and collaborators able to meet the costs of a residency through, for example, their own resources, direct support of academic institutions, public funders or foundations.

For individuals: Independently-funded residencies last 4 weeks and can take place throughout the year. Makers. artists, cultural practitioners, writers, and researchers – at every career stage, and working in every creative discipline – are welcome.

For Groups: Craft Central also offers independently-funded residencies to groups, including cultural organisations, companies, and collectives. The facilities we provide can be used for collaborative projects, seminars, programme and project development, and strategic planning.

Size: Studios range in size from 84 sq ft to 345 sq ft.

Benefits: As well as a dedicated studio space, you will have access to our workshop/ meeting room, communal work spaces and the residency can include use of our large 1000ft gallery. There are communal kitchen facilities at The Forge and free secure parking should you require it. All participants will have 24/7 secure access to The Forge.

Our building has step free access and studios are available on the ground floor level. Click here for more information about our building

Application: There is a short application process where you should outline your practice and tell us why you benefit from a residency. Please add some images of your work.
