Craft Central

I am always happy when I am creating something. I work in a very organic way with each jewellery or textile item informing the next; consequently pieces are seldom repeated exactly and new ranges are continuously evolving. I am fascinated by materials and techniques and strive to combine traditional techniques with contemporary materials in innovative ways.

I learnt to weave almost 30 years ago in Norway and have since learnt many textile techniques. My large scale work combines hand-woven textiles, manipulated fabrics and acrylic, coloured light, still images and video projections to create eye-catching sculptural installations with constantly changing light reflection, colour, surface detail and movement.

My work is all done to commission and is made in my studio in Newcastle upon Tyne. Much of my inspiration has been taken from the rural landscape: clear skies, wind, water and the land however since moving to the city in September 2008 the urban landscape, fashion and museum collections have begun to inform my work.

Recently I have spent time designing and making bespoke jewellery pieces from precious metal wires, synthetic fibres, silver glass and pearl beads and using textile techniques such as weave, knit and crochet.

I would be delighted to talk to you about commissioning a piece of jewellery or textile art.
