Craft Central

Susan studied at both The Holts Academy and the Sir John Cass School of Jewellery Design, learning her craft on short courses whilst also raising a family of 5 children. Whilst at the Holts Academy, she was tutored by Master Goldsmith, Stuart Paul, with whom, after a lengthy apprenticeship, she has now formed the creative collaboration - SP Squared based in Clerkenwell.

Working intuitively, Susan takes inspiration from beautiful stones, objects and artefacts found on her travels. These ideas are then interpreted in 18-carat gold and silver, precious and semi- precious stones and pearls, using traditional methods to create innovative, highly individual pieces of jewellery that reflect the beauty of their provenance. Susan uses traditionally cut fine diamonds as well as rose-cut and coloured diamonds and where pieces have been carved in wax they are cast using the traditional lost wax process.

Her stacking rings, which are very popular as wedding rings, are produced from melted metal and forged, lending each one its own unique, roughly-hewn appearance. The rings can also be fashioned from clients’ own jewellery, transforming much-loved family pieces in to beautiful new, individual designs.

Clients are welcome at Susan’s Clerkenwell studio where they can browse the necklaces, rings, bracelets and charms in her current collection or commission new work.
