Sue's main interest is in creating decorative, image based textiles. These can be seen as garments, artwork or fabrics for fashion and interiors. She has shown her collections at Origin and sells mostly through private commissions.
Combining materials and techniques in her work, Sue gets excited by the idea of mixing traditional crafts with technology, using recycled and vintage fabrics.
Most of her base fabrics are machine knitted and then layered with hand embroidery and collaged using a needlepunch machine.
More recently, the work has been inspired by old family photographs and childhood memories. She is working her way through imagery to create knitted portraits and buildings as a map of her life.
In addition, Sue is working more commercially on a collection of knitted fabrics for upholstery and interiors.
As a dedicated teacher, she has been the Course leader for Mixed Media Textiles in Creative Arts at Bath Spa University since 2002 – and also runs decorative textile workshops by arrangement.
