Craft Central

Whilst studying Textile Technology and Design at Demontfort University in Leicester, Edie Obilaso undertook evening hat making classes out of curiosity at the local Adult Education Centre. In 2007 she established her label Orizu with the launch of a practical and inspired Ready to Wear modern classic, ‘The 1920’s Dress Hat’ Collection, attracting much attention from an edgy and stylish clientele. Soon after, she began tuition under renowned hatter and historian Jane Smith and has never looked back.

Flouting the rules, she experiments, combining traditional methods with her own techniques ensuring her couture collections are always articulate ‘one – off pieces’ or a limited series of hats. Enchantingly, her collections are characterized by the use of dramatic colour and sculptural qualities to accentuate the lines of a silhouette. Essentially, she creates hats to flatter the wearer.

Orizu regularly donates used materials for the Craft Central Recycles program.
