What does Mel make?
Mel makes chic and unique vintage objects d'art. She takes un-loved lamps and furniture, and reinvents them into brilliantly bohemian pieces for your home or business.
The floral, geometric and paisley patterned fabrics which adorn the pieces are beautifully preserved, original vintage textiles from the 50's, 60's and 70's. Mel's skillfully handcrafted pieces are created with a love of, and dedication to, traditional upholstery techniques, and Mel is recognised on the Craft Council's National Register of Makers. Mel believes strongly in re-cycling furnishings wherever possible, and compliments this with the use of modern luxurious trimmings and fittings to restore pieces to a new glory.
Who is Mel?
Mel is an inventive and inspired lover of all things vintage. She started compulsively collecting vintage fabrics during her days as a Textiles Undergraduate in the delightful city of Norwich. Mel moved from Norwich to London carrying suitcases laden with vintage fabrics, with a hunch that they would be useful for something. After visiting vintage and antique shops around the capital and gazing sadly at neglected furnishings, Mel quickly became certain about how to utilize the contents of those suitcases, and 'Mel Made This' was born.
