Katy's work aims to reassess the function of ornament and its relevance to contemporary design.
Drawing upon traditions of interior decorative ornament, the work captures a handmade tactility and distinguishes individual character within various production methods.
The speculation between the real and the fantastic drives an ongoing material exploration of the recognition of ambiguous forms and their interpretation as creature.
Katy is interested in the everyday relationships we have with animals. The garden bird, when living in the city, is a rare sighting, becoming an almost mythical presence that exists as an amalgamation of real memories and the fantastic imaginary being.
