Jane Runchman set up her workshop in London in 1996 after studying at the Architectural Association, London and Leeds School of Art and Design.  She makes specially designed original one-off precious pieces.

“I work primarily to commission, although I sometimes make small collections of work. My pieces are elegant and refined; each contains a characteristic or narrative related to the wearer.  I listen to my client’s story, how they would like the piece to feel and what they would like the piece to express. Each client brings their unique wishes and desires for their jewel; it’s raison d’etre.  Observing, taking notes, making sketches and building maquettes, I translate them into their piece.  We carefully select materials considering the qualities each brings to the work.

My jewellery is intended to be cherished, for now, and for generations to come.  For me the value is not just in a handmade piece of jewellery using beautiful and precious materials but the care and attention that has been invested into the design and fitting the piece exactly to the client.  I enjoy the synergy of collaborating with clients, creating designs which I would not generate alone.”

Jane works in recycled high carat golds and platinum and uses only carefully chosen ethically sourced, fine gemstones. Fine craftsmanship is of utmost importance and all her work is handmade in Hatton Garden using traditional goldsmithing techniques. Her work is commissioned by private clients in the UK and internationally.

Jane has worked as a visiting lecturer at the Crafts Council.
