Location: The Corner Shop, Craft Central, 21 Clerkenwell Green, London EC1R 0DX

Exciting new jeweller Kassandra Lauren Gordon launches her first collection Fly Me to Jupiter at The Corner Shop.

Reaching for the stars is that much easier when you can attach them to your hand. Fly Me to Jupiter uses spheres and circles to represent orbits and celestial bodies. Angular shapes symbolize dimensions.

All pieces are made from precious metals and gemstones by hand from Gordon’s home studio.

Gordon says “To me space is a metaphor for accepting oneself and ambition. As a physical destination it is a limitless place. Even when we say ‘reach for the stars’ we have an infinite choice of which stars as though to match the diversity of human personality and choice. You don’t need to have the same destination as other people and that’s OK.”

Swimming at Midnight 2015 - A Fine Art Photography Exhibition

Date: 17 March 2015 to 21 March 2015
Opening Times: Opening times 11-7pm
Location: The Gallery, 33-35 St John's Square, London EC1M 4DS

Veronica Bailey presents swimming at midnight, a photograph that originates from a private family letter written by the Welsh actor Richard Burton (1925-1984) in July 1972. Only recently rediscovered, this correspondence (a photocopy of the now lost original) was sent to Bailey's aunt and uncle, after being signed by both Burton and his then wife, the Anglo-American actress Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011). At a time when correspondence was unlike today's mobile texting and social networking applications such as Twitter and Facebook, this typed letter reveals a family man who was 'surrounded by women' with children who jovially invaded his privacy 'like the secret service'.

Bailey draws focus on the author's apparent whimsical prose; revealing more text than in previous works, such as Postscript 2005. Burton's wit and humour are revealed playfully as the story unfolds. The title 'swimming at midnight' refers to a childhood event -a proposed sleepover attended by the Burton's daughter - at which the pool adventure might occur. The potential for such youthful excitement under the moon and stars of a summer night evokes envy in both Burton and his wife, whilst also inciting the viewer to share in this sense of possible pleasure too.

UGLYLOVELY MILLINERY EXHIBITION

As part of London Hat Week, Sahar Freemantle showcases her unique and unconventional millinery in her first solo exhibition.

UglyLovely and Sahar Millinery are both brands from Sahar Freemantle, a London milliner with a love affair for the definition of beauty.  Both brands use traditional millinery techniques, and whereas Sahar Millinery is concerned with bringing about timeless ‘vintage style’ elegance, UglyLovely is more macabre. Described as ‘sinister but beautiful’; UglyLovely is about the wonder and awe in the beauty of the strangest things, and a celebration of death. Here we see more sculptured pieces adorned with real butterflies, rusted keys and bird claws.

Inspired by The Barbicans latest show ‘Magnificent Obsessions’; The exhibition will feature headpieces from UglyLovely as well as the inspiration behind the work, raw materials and a gallery shop with pieces to buy from both brands.

The gallery shop will sell ready made pieces to buy for weddings or Ascot, as well as Sahar Millinery’s range of ‘Faux-Turbans’ and 1920’s cloche hats.

31st March: Private View and press event; with live music from Minnie's Henhouse and special 'Millinery Tango' performance, plus a 10% discount on all products on the night.
